Enjoy your festive candy corn cake roll as a delightful Halloween treat!
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 4 large eggs
- 3/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- Yellow and orange food coloring
- 1/4 cup powdered sugar (for dusting)
- 1 cup heavy whipping cream
- 2 tablespoons powdered sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
- Candy corn pieces for garnish
Instructions
- Preheat Oven and Prepare Pan: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a 10×15 inch jelly roll pan with parchment paper and lightly grease.
- Mix Dry Ingredients: In a bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
- Prepare Egg Mixture: In a large mixing bowl, beat the eggs until thick and pale, about 3-5 minutes. Gradually add the granulated sugar and vanilla extract, beating well.
- Combine Ingredients: Fold the dry ingredients into the egg mixture gently until well combined.
- Divide and Color Batter: Divide the batter into three separate bowls. Leave one portion plain, color one with yellow food coloring, and the other with orange.
- Layer Batter: Pour the plain batter into the prepared pan, spreading evenly. Carefully layer the yellow batter on top, followed by the orange batter.
- Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for 10-12 minutes, or until the cake springs back when touched.
- Roll Cake: While the cake is still warm, dust a clean kitchen towel with powdered sugar. Turn the cake onto the towel, peel off the parchment, and roll the cake up in the towel. Let it cool completely.
- Prepare the Filling: Beat the heavy cream, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract until stiff peaks form.
- Assemble the Cake Roll: Unroll the cooled cake gently and spread the whipped cream mixture over it. Re-roll the cake without the towel.
- Final Touches: Garnish the top with candy corn pieces.
Notes
- Make sure to roll the cake while it’s warm to prevent cracking.
- Use high-quality food coloring for vibrant colors.
- For a neater appearance, slice off the ends of the roll to reveal the clean swirl.
