Enjoy making these festive treats!
Ingredients
Scale
- 6 medium apples (Granny Smith or Honeycrisp work well)
- 12 ounces caramel candies
- 2 tablespoons heavy cream
- 6 wooden sticks
- 1 cup chopped peanuts or candy corn (optional for decoration)
- Chocolate chips for decorating faces (optional)
- Butter for greasing
Instructions
- Prepare the Apples:
- Wash and thoroughly dry each apple.
- Insert a wooden stick into the stem end of each apple.
- Melt the Caramel:
- In a saucepan over low heat, melt the caramel candies.
- Stir in the heavy cream until the mixture is smooth.
- Dip the Apples:
- Tilt the saucepan to the side and rotate each apple in the caramel until fully coated.
- Allow excess caramel to drip off before placing each apple on a buttered baking sheet.
- Decorate:
- Press chopped peanuts or candy corn onto the caramel before it sets for added decoration.
- Use melted chocolate chips to draw faces on the apples with a toothpick or small piping bag for a Halloween-themed look.
- Set the Caramel:
- Allow the apples to sit at room temperature or refrigerate them until the caramel is firm.
Notes
- Ensure apples are completely dry before dipping to help the caramel adhere better.
- If the caramel becomes too thick while dipping, warm it slightly on low heat.
- For extra flavor, consider adding a pinch of salt to the caramel mixture.
- Use wax paper if a buttered baking sheet is unavailable to prevent sticking.
