- ¼ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1 tsp baking soda
- ½ tsp salt
- 1 cup unsalted butter, room temperature
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- ½ cup brown sugar, packed
- 2 large eggs
- 2 tbsp red food coloring
- 2 tsp vanilla extract
- Optional: Cream cheese frosting for topping
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line two baking sheets with parchment paper.
- In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt. Set aside.
- In a large bowl, beat butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy.
- Add eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Mix in red food coloring and vanilla extract.
- Gradually combine the dry ingredients with the wet mixture until just mixed—avoid overmixing.
- Drop tablespoon-sized balls of dough onto prepared baking sheets and bake for about 10 minutes until edges are set but centers remain soft.
- Cool slightly before transferring to a wire rack. Top with cream cheese frosting if desired.
