Description

Delicious chocolate apple bars that are soft, sweet, and perfect for dessert or a snack.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 6 tablespoons unsalted butter (melted)
  • 1/2 cup light brown sugar (packed)
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon (optional)
  • 3/4 cup tart green apple (finely diced, peeled, about 1 Granny Smith)
  • 1 teaspoon flour (for coating apples)
  • 3/4 cup chocolate chips (dark, milk, or white)
  • 2 tablespoons nut butter (optional)
  • 12 teaspoons coconut oil (optional, to thin chocolate)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F. Line a 9×5 loaf pan with parchment paper, leaving overhang.
  2. Melt 6 tablespoons butter and whisk with 1/2 cup brown sugar and 1/4 cup granulated sugar until glossy.
  3. Whisk in 1 egg and 1 teaspoon vanilla until smooth.
  4. In a separate bowl, whisk 1 cup flour, 1/2 teaspoon baking powder, 1/4 teaspoon salt, and 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon if using.
  5. Toss 3/4 cup diced apple with 1 teaspoon flour to coat.
  6. Add dry ingredients to wet and fold gently. Fold in the flour-coated apples.
  7. Spread batter into prepared pan. Bake 22-28 minutes until edges are golden and center is set but soft.
  8. Cool completely before slicing into bars.
  9. For chocolate dip: Melt 3/4 cup chocolate with 2 tablespoons nut butter (if using) in 20-30 second bursts. Add coconut oil if too thick.
  10. Dip bars halfway in chocolate or spoon over tops. Sprinkle with sea salt if desired. Let set before serving.
