Description

This homemade bread recipe is easy and yields a soft, fluffy loaf perfect for sandwiches or toasting.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 cups bread flour
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 1/4 tsp active dry yeast (1 packet)
  • 2 tsp salt
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter (softened)

Instructions

  1. Activate the yeast by mixing warm milk with sugar and yeast in a small bowl. Let it sit for 5 minutes until foamy.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the bread flour and salt.
  3. Combine the foamy yeast mixture and softened butter with the dry ingredients, stirring until a shaggy dough forms.
  4. Knead the dough on a lightly floured surface for about 10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  5. Place the kneaded dough in an oiled bowl, cover it with plastic wrap, and let it rise in a warm place until doubled in size (about 1 hour).
  6. Punch down the dough, shape it into a loaf, place it into a greased loaf pan, cover again, and let rise for another 30 minutes.
  7. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake the loaf for about 30 minutes until golden brown. Let cool before slicing.

Notes

  • Ensure the milk is warm, but not hot, to avoid killing the yeast.
  • This bread can be sliced and stored in an airtight container for several days.
