Description
This homemade bread recipe is easy and yields a soft, fluffy loaf perfect for sandwiches or toasting.
Ingredients
Scale
- 4 cups bread flour
- 1 cup whole milk
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 2 1/4 tsp active dry yeast (1 packet)
- 2 tsp salt
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter (softened)
Instructions
- Activate the yeast by mixing warm milk with sugar and yeast in a small bowl. Let it sit for 5 minutes until foamy.
- In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the bread flour and salt.
- Combine the foamy yeast mixture and softened butter with the dry ingredients, stirring until a shaggy dough forms.
- Knead the dough on a lightly floured surface for about 10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- Place the kneaded dough in an oiled bowl, cover it with plastic wrap, and let it rise in a warm place until doubled in size (about 1 hour).
- Punch down the dough, shape it into a loaf, place it into a greased loaf pan, cover again, and let rise for another 30 minutes.
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake the loaf for about 30 minutes until golden brown. Let cool before slicing.
Notes
- Ensure the milk is warm, but not hot, to avoid killing the yeast.
- This bread can be sliced and stored in an airtight container for several days.
