Description
Delicious candy-coated apples infused with the flavors of strawberry cream.
Ingredients
Scale
- 4 fresh apples
- 1 cup sugar
- 1/2 cup light corn syrup
- 1/4 cup water
- 1/4 cup heavy cream
- 1 tbsp unsalted butter
- 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
- 10–15 strawberry cream hard candies, crushed
- to taste red or pink food coloring (optional)
- as needed wooden sticks
Instructions
- Prepare the Apples:
- Wash and dry the apples thoroughly.
- Insert wooden sticks into the stem end of each apple.
- Make the Candy Coating:
- In a saucepan, combine sugar, corn syrup, and water. Stir over medium heat until the sugar dissolves.
- Increase the heat to medium-high and bring the mixture to a boil.
- Let it boil until it reaches 300°F (hard crack stage) on a candy thermometer.
- Remove from heat and stir in heavy cream, unsalted butter, and vanilla extract carefully. If desired, add a few drops of red or pink food coloring for a richer color.
- Coat the Apples:
- Working quickly, dip each apple into the hot candy mixture, turning to coat evenly.
- Allow excess to drip off and then roll the apple in the crushed strawberry cream candies, pressing lightly to adhere.
- Set the Apples:
- Place the coated apples on a parchment-lined baking sheet.
- Let them cool completely until the candy coating is set.
Notes
- Make sure the apples are completely dry before coating to ensure the candy adheres properly.
- If the candy mixture hardens before all apples are coated, gently reheat it until it is back to a liquid state.
- Use a silicone spatula to stir the candy mixture to prevent sticking.
- Experiment with additional toppings like crushed nuts or sprinkles for added texture and flavor.
